2004: The only boatshow in China at the time, Shanghai Boatshow in the PuDong International Convention Centre humbly encompass approximately 3000 sq.m of ground space. Only a handful of export-capable boatyards exist in mainland China, most moved across the strait from Taiwan, such as Nordhavn, Ocean Alexander, Hampton, DeFever, Saleen.
2005: Pacific Boating Development brings a full set of modern sportsfisher design to China and start production. Local grown boatyards start to emerge in various locations in China, mostly building simple fiberglass body vessels.
2006: Boatbuilding hub ZhuHai takes off with more than 20 international standard boatyards, many building superyachts for overseas customers. Domestic pleasure boating scene start to emerge.
2007: Boatshows in more than 15 various costal cities in China takes place. An influx of overseas naval architects and buyers come to China boatshows and boatyards to check out products and quality.
2008: Number of high quality local grown boatyards continue to grown, at least 20 domestic brands that are capable to compete with import boats. Global Finance Crisis occurs towards the end of the year.
2009: The full effect of the GFC is felt in China. Most export oriented boatyards transform their businesses to “look inward”.
2010: Domestic pleasure boating market grows exponentially, more than 50 international brands establish distribution points in China. Marinas are constructed all along costal cities and inland waterways, many being ultra luxurious member-exclusive yacht clubs. Boat sales grow by the month.
2011: Pleasure boating market grows at the same pace as to grand auto, luxury goods, high end villa estate: No. 1 growing market in the world. Boat building capability start to concern even some of the most high quality manufacturers overseas.
